3. One-time, one-year Hunter Education deferral. Cost: $10. Allows hunters ages 17 or older to defer completion of their mandatory hunter education for up to one year, as long as the person is accompanied by a hunter who has completed hunter education or is exempt (born prior to September 2, 1971). Hunter Education Certification issued by any state, Canadian Province, or some foreign jurisdictions are deemed to meet the requirements of Kansas Law. HUNTING FEDERAL PROPERTIES: Hunting on some federal properties requires a valid Hunter Education certification, regardless of age. This requirement takes precedence over Kansas law. The traditional hunter education course is a minimum 8 hours of instruction plus a written examination. The course is taught by Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries personnel and volunteer instructors to participants 10 years of age and older and is offered free of charge. The South Carolina Hunter Education Class is recommended for motivated students 12 years of age and older with good reading and comprehension skills who have some firearm and hunting knowledge or experience. Course materials are on a 6th-grade reading level. Every hunter (including out-of-state hunters) born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, must successfully complete a hunter education training course. Proof of certification or deferral is required to be on your person while hunting. Minimum age of certification is 9 years. Single-day in-person course cost is $15. Hunter Education Courses Residents and non-residents born on or after January 1, 1961 must successfully complete a hunter education course prior to purchasing a season hunting license. However, a hunter education course is not required to purchase an Apprentice License or a license identified as a “Short Term” License. The workbook and Today's Hunter-Nevada student manual (reference for completing the workbook) may be obtained free from any regional NDOW office. Students have two choices of internet course; com and com, with both courses charging an additional fee over the basic $5 class fee. This manual consists of curriculum used in the Hunter Education (Part B) course, which when combined with the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (Part A), makes up the Atlantic Provinces Firearm Safety-Hunter Education Program. This program is an educational requirement for all first-time hunters in the Atlantic Provinces. ALERT: The DNR has modified firearms safety certification requirements on an interim basis as a result of COVID-19.Students of all ages may take their classroom training online. Students age 14 and older may also complete a virtual field day instead of the traditional in-person field day by signing up for and completing the online hunter safety course. Online Hunter Education Certification & Manual This course is a provincial requirement for all first time hunters in Alberta and as such complete certification is required with an 80% pass mark on the final exam. This online course may be taken from any internet enabled computer and can be paused and returned to at any time. Education & training for hunters Education and training for hunters is provided through the Hunter Learning, Education and Accreditation Program (LEAP), administered by the NSW DPI Game Licensing Unit. Ongoing education and training is an important part of regulated hunting in NSW. Both the Hunter and Crossbow Education Courses are in an Online-Only Format.
